Picniks was born from a love of hospitality, a passion for crafting, and a desire to create something meaningful for our community.
After running a local café in Barnard Castle for over 30 years, we knew it was time for a new chapter. One that combined our family's hospitality roots with the therapeutic power of creativity.
Meet Nicola, Our Founder
I'm Nicola, and I've always used crafting to escape the chaos of everyday life and reduce stress. There's something about creating with your hands that gives you a sense of accomplishment, boosts your dopamine and lets you express yourself in a world where technology has taken over.
It's cheaper than therapy and way more fun!
Having recently been diagnosed with ADHD, it all started to make sense. The skills and experience I'd picked up over the years needed a purpose. When we decided to sell our family café, I knew exactly what I wanted to do next.
I wanted to create a space where others could feel the therapeutic benefits that creativity brings. And with our family's passion for good food and warm hospitality, Picniks Ceramic and Craft Café was born.
Three Generations of Hospitality
Our family has been in the hospitality industry for over 50 years, spanning three generations. We ran a local café in town for more than 30 years, serving our community through recessions, a global pandemic, and countless changes in technology and social habits.
We've seen it all, and we understand how these challenges can take a toll on your mental health and general wellbeing.
That's why we've created something different at Picniks. We're not just serving food and drinks. We're offering a space where people can slow down, be creative and connect with others in a meaningful way.
